Which Komodo Liveaboard Is Best for a Private Charter?

"Best" is not a property of a boat; it is the output of a comparison you have not run yet. Here it is: the criteria that separate Komodo vessels, the rules that constrain every operator, and where one vessel, LASHA, stands.

Does "private charter" mean the same thing on every boat?

No, and this is where quotes stop being comparable. Some vessels sell cabins on a shared departure and call a full buy-out a private charter. Others sell the whole boat only, so every departure is private by construction. A third group sells both, so your "private" week may be priced against a cabin-fill forecast, not a fixed table.

What should you compare before you compare price?

1. Charter model and rate transparency. Whole boat, cabins or both; published tables versus "price on request".
2. Guest cap and bed configuration. Ten cabins carrying twenty-six is a different trip from ten carrying twenty, and twin-versus-double decides whether your group fits.
3. Hull and motion. Timber or steel, stabilisers or none — get the honest answer, not the brochure answer.
4. Dive capability and safety disclosure. Dive deck and diving supplement; liferaft places against maximum souls aboard, EPIRB, AIS, radar.

How do park and harbour rules change what a charter can promise?

Komodo is more regulated than most guides admit, and these five points apply to every operator equally.

1. Ticketing is digital. Reservations and entry tickets run through the SiOra platform, launched by the Ministry of Forestry in July 2025. Ask who files yours.
2. A daily visitor cap applies. A cap of 1,000 visitors per day was announced by the Ministry of Forestry from 1 April 2026 and scheduled for periodic review. Confirm the figure in force for your dates with the park authority.
3. Entry is timed, and windows differ by site. Balai Taman Nasional Komodo publishes entry hours per location rather than one schedule for the whole park, and reported versions conflict. Verify current windows against the authority's own announcement, never against hours quoted in a blog.
4. A naturalist guide is required at the land sites. Under the conservation directorate's rules, visitors at Loh Liang on Komodo Island and Loh Buaya on Rinca must be accompanied by one.
5. Anchoring and night movement are restricted. The visitor protocol prohibits anchoring in water shallower than 30 metres except on sandy areas. Since early 2026 the Labuan Bajo harbourmaster's office (KSOP Kelas III) has also banned tourist-vessel movement at night across ten stretches of water identified as hazardous, including the Padar and Molo straits. No specific hours were published.

One more thing before you pick a month. Sailings were suspended repeatedly for weather between December 2025 and February 2026, and again in early August 2026 — inside what most guides call the safe dry season. Treat "April to October is fine" as a generalisation, not a guarantee, and pick an operator whose answer to a closure is a re-plan rather than a shrug.

What does a Komodo private charter cost on LASHA?

Two formats carry single, consistent published figures.

• Komodo 2 days 1 night: USD 12,600 whole boat for 1–14 guests, rising to USD 19,800 at 22 paying guests — roughly USD 900 per guest per night, plus USD 35 per guest per night in entrance fees.
• One-day charter, maximum 16 hours: USD 10,000 flat for 1–20 guests, plus USD 500 per extra guest and USD 35 per guest per day in entrance fees.

The multi-night Komodo band is published as a range, not a single number: roughly USD 10,800–10,800 per night leisure and USD 11,600–11,600 diving for 1–14 guests, rising with group size. The operator states openly that two tables on its own site carry slightly different figures here, and that the charter desk confirms the exact figure in the written quotation. Ask for that quotation rather than planning against a midpoint.

Outside the rate sit marine park and regency entrance fees — USD 25 per guest per night on the overnight bands, USD 35 on the two short formats — plus flights, hotels, visas, insurance, alcohol, spa and land transfers. Park charges are set under Indonesian regulation PP 36/2024 and collected separately; verify the amounts in force with the park authority. No deposit percentage is published.

What this means for your trip

Shortlist on charter model, not photographs. Divide the whole-boat night rate by your head count, add park fees and any diving supplement: that is the comparable number. Ask what each operator did for guests during the 2026 suspensions, and get deposit, cancellation and weather terms in writing before money moves.
