The Numbers, Not the Adjectives

LASHA under way with her sails set
A 2023 phinisi built by Buginese shipwrights in Ulin ironwood and teak — 466 gross tonnes across four decks.

LASHA is a 52.5-metre, 466 GT phinisi launched in 2023, carrying up to 26 guests in 10 ensuite cabins across four decks. On the long-range band — Raja Ampat, Banda Sea, Wakatobi and Maratua — she charters from USD 11,600 per night for the whole boat with a five-night minimum, which is USD 750 per guest per night with 14 aboard.

Most luxury phinisi working eastern Indonesia carry five to eight cabins and top out around 16 guests. Ten ensuite staterooms for 26 changes what a single expedition charter can hold: a full dive group with its non-diving partners, three generations of one family, or a research and film team with its cases. This page is the numbers page. Every dimension, tank, engine and berth below comes from LASHA's own published specification sheet, and every dollar figure from the 2026–2027 rate band the charter desk quotes from.

Four decks: lower-deck twins, main-deck Junior Suites with balconies, the Master Suites above, and the sun deck over everything.

A 10.3-metre beam on a 52.5-metre hull is an unusually broad ratio, and it is why the dining room seats a full charter at one table and why the ship stands steady enough for guests to carry coffee up open staircases on a swell. For expedition work the decisive numbers are the last two rows: fuel and fresh water.

Navigation and safety are equally published rather than summarised: Garmin GPS, Samyung AIS transponder, radar with SART, iCom radio, Samyung EPIRB and a 54-channel CCTV system; two lifeboats, four 20-person liferafts giving 80 covered places, 75 life jackets, 30 fire extinguishers and 12 ring buoys. Eighty liferaft places against a maximum of 26 guests plus crew is roughly three times what is carried aboard — the kind of margin that matters when the nearest harbour is a day away.

The Suites

How Are the Ten Cabins Laid Out?

Four tiers, two decks, every cabin ensuite with a marble bathroom and rain shower. Nobody on a LASHA charter shares a bathroom, and no cabin is a bunk-room afterthought.

Full layouts and photography are on the cabins & suites page. Extra beds in 103, 104, 203 and 204 are what lift the ship from 20 berths to 26.

Above the staterooms the ship divides by purpose: the Main Deck carries the Living Room and the dedicated dive deck at water level; the Upper Deck holds the Lounge & Resto, a chill area and the captain's room, with an alfresco table for breakfast under way; the Top Deck is given entirely to a sun deck and an open-air jacuzzi. On a fourteen-day crossing that separation is not decoration — it is what stops 26 people from living in each other's pockets.

The Rate Ladder

What Does an Expedition Charter Cost, Row by Row?

Loungers on the LASHA sun deck at anchor
Whole-boat pricing means the ladder is published in full. The figure you are quoted is the row your group size lands on.

At this end of the market rates usually hide behind an enquiry form. LASHA publishes hers. The table below is the long-range band that covers Raja Ampat, the Banda Sea, Wakatobi and Maratua — the waters this vessel was fitted out for — with a five-night minimum because the distances only make sense with time.

Minimum 5 nights. Marine park and regency fees are billed separately at USD 25 per guest per night on this band. FOC = free-of-charge guest place already included in the price shown.

For comparison, the shorter Komodo · Alor · Sumbawa · Lombok · Bali band runs a two-night minimum from USD 10,800 leisure and USD 11,600 dive per night for 1–14 guests, and the full row-by-row tables for both bands sit on the 2026–2027 rates page. Guests choosing between the two usually discover the decision is really about season rather than budget: Komodo works April to October, the eastern band from roughly October to April.

Anyone weighing LASHA against other vessels in the same waters can see how the wider fleet is priced and positioned through luxury Raja Ampat, the operator's dedicated planning resource for the region, and then come back to the table above for the row that matches their own group size.

Aboard

Who Is LASHA Best For?

  • Best for large private groups. Ten ensuite cabins is rare in this fleet; parties of 18–22 that would otherwise split across two boats stay on one hull, and the FOC ladder gives them up to four free places.
  • Best for mixed dive and non-dive parties. A dive deck at water level on the main deck, a sun deck jacuzzi two flights up, and USD 55 per guest per night between the leisure and dive rate.
  • Best for long-range voyages. 12,000 litres of fuel and 22,000 litres of water are what make a five-night Raja Ampat minimum or a Banda Sea crossing a plan rather than a hope.
  • Less suited to solo travellers and couples on a tight budget. There is no per-cabin sale. A couple can charter LASHA, but they pay the whole-boat minimum to do it.

Planning further: the Komodo to Raja Ampat crossing page covers the repositioning voyage leg by leg, international connections to Sorong covers getting there, and the expedition FAQ hub answers a hundred more questions in one place.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is LASHA and how many guests does she carry?

LASHA measures 52.5 metres overall with a 10.3-metre beam and 466 gross tonnes. She carries up to 26 guests in 10 ensuite cabins across four decks, with the crew quartered on the lower deck.

How much does a Raja Ampat or Banda Sea charter on LASHA cost?

From USD 11,600 per night for the whole boat on a leisure programme and USD 12,400 with the dive programme, minimum five nights. At 14 guests aboard that works out at USD 750 and USD 800 per guest per night respectively.

Can I book a single cabin instead of the whole yacht?

No. LASHA sells as a whole boat only, never by the cabin. The 1–14 guest row is the charter minimum, so two people can take all ten staterooms at the same total a group of fourteen pays.

What is the difference between the leisure rate and the dive rate?

Diving adds USD 55 per guest per night on every overnight band. That covers the dedicated dive-deck programme; snorkelling remains the alternative for non-divers on the same charter.

Was LASHA built as a real phinisi or a modern yacht?

Both descriptions are honest. Her hull was laid in 2023 in Ulin ironwood and teak by Buginese shipwrights in the phinisi tradition UNESCO inscribed on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2017, and she is registered as a sailing vessel under the Indonesian flag. The interior standard — marble bathrooms in every cabin, in-suite jacuzzi bathtubs in two Master Suites — is modern charter yacht.

Is LASHA the same vessel as the superyacht KOMODO?

No. M/Y KOMODO is a 73-metre motor superyacht on international charter fleets with no connection to LASHA. LASHA is a 52.5-metre wooden phinisi that sails in Komodo National Park; the park is her home water, not her name.

How much fuel and fresh water does she carry for remote expeditions?

12,000 litres of fuel and 22,000 litres of fresh water. Those two tanks are the reason the five-night minimum on the Raja Ampat, Banda Sea, Wakatobi and Maratua band is realistic rather than optimistic.

When does LASHA start sailing?

Her maiden public sailing leaves Labuan Bajo on 17 August 2026, Indonesian Independence Day. Because she has not yet run a season there are no guest reviews to quote, which is exactly why this page publishes hard specifications and rate tables instead.

Where These Numbers Come From

Vessel dimensions, tank capacities, safety inventory and cabin numbers are taken from LASHA's own published specification sheet on the yacht page. Charter figures are the published 2026–2027 rate band on the rates page — the same file the Komodo Luxury charter desk quotes from. Government fees are cited to their source in the text. Where a figure is an operational estimate rather than a published number, it is labelled as such on this page. LASHA begins her maiden public season on 17 August 2026, so there are no guest reviews to quote yet and none are invented here.
