What Is LASHA?
LASHA is a 466-gross-ton phinisi built in 2023 in the Buginese tradition — the South Sulawesi boatbuilding craft UNESCO inscribed on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2017. At 52.5 metres long with a 10.3-metre beam, she carries 10 ensuite cabins across four decks: two Deluxe and two Grand Deluxe cabins on the lower deck, four Junior Suites with private balconies on the main deck, and two Master Suites — 205 and 206 — where our in-suite jacuzzi bathtubs face ocean-view windows. She sails as a multi-night liveaboard: guests sleep aboard at anchor, minimum two nights on the Komodo–Alor–Sumbawa–Bali routes and five nights on the seasonal Raja Ampat–Banda Sea–Wakatobi expeditions, with a dedicated dive deck and a separate dive rate band. Her listings describe a 23.6-metre sport yacht with a 5.5-metre beam, 76 gross tons, accommodation for up to eight guests, and a triple Volvo Penta engine installation good for a cruising speed around 25 knots, a top speed near 35 knots and a range in the region of 300 nautical miles.
Nothing in this post is a mark against her — she is a quick, elegant yacht doing a completely different job. Komodo National Park was established in 1980 and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991 — 219,322 hectares of islands and protected sea holding 2,448 wild Komodo dragons in the most recent published census. A destination that famous pulls its name onto everything near it: tour brands, dive operators, route names, and at least one yacht on the far side of the world. We took the opposite approach. The vessel carries her own name, LASHA, and the park stays what it is: the place we sail, not a label we borrowed.
That distinction matters practically.
