The Lounge and Resto aboard LASHA
The Lounge and Resto aboard LASHA.

Yes — LASHA's galley prepares vegan, vegetarian, halal, and allergy-aware menus on every Komodo departure, provided the request reaches us when you book. Guests receive three chef-prepared meals plus snacks daily, cooked from fresh Labuan Bajo produce and mostly served alfresco. Submit dietary notes at booking, and no later than final payment.

A liveaboard raises a fair question for anyone who eats vegan, keeps halal, or manages a food allergy: once the ship leaves the harbour, there is no restaurant down the street. On LASHA — a 52.5-metre, 466GT phinisi carrying a maximum of 26 guests across 10 ensuite cabins on four decks — the answer is preparation. Every menu is planned around the actual guest list before the vessel casts off, and the single most important step happens on land: telling us what you need.

Can a Komodo liveaboard really cater to vegan and halal guests?

It can, and on a private charter it does so more precisely than most hotels. LASHA is the newest vessel in the Komodo fleet, entering service for her maiden season on 17 August 2026 from her home port of Labuan Bajo. Because the ship sails as a full private charter — from US$10,800 per night for up to 14 guests — there is no fixed buffet designed for a crowd of strangers. The chef team cooks for your group and your group alone. If eight of your twelve guests are vegetarian and two keep halal, the provisioning list, the menu plan, and the galley stations are arranged around exactly that before departure.

Halal requests are handled at the level of sourcing and preparation: no pork on the menu for your charter, seafood-forward Indonesian cooking as the backbone, and meat purchased accordingly. Vegan guests receive composed dishes built for the diet — not a plate with items removed. What makes both work is notice, which is why we ask for dietary details as part of the booking conversation itself.

How does dining work on board LASHA?

Meals follow the rhythm of the itinerary rather than a hotel clock. Between dragon treks, dives from the dedicated dive deck, and afternoons at the jacuzzi sun deck, food appears where the day is happening — most often alfresco, with the indoor Lounge & Resto available when the sun or an evening breeze suggests it.

MealWhen it is servedWhat to expect
BreakfastAfter the sunrise activity, typically 7:00–9:00Fresh fruit, eggs or plant-based mains, Indonesian and Western options
LunchMidday, often between anchoragesFamily-style spread; the day's largest meal for divers and trekkers
Afternoon snacksAround 16:00, usually on deckFried bananas, fresh coconut, light bites with coffee and tea
DinnerAfter sunsetPlated or family-style, tailored to the charter's dietary profile
AnytimeThroughout the dayWater, tea, coffee, and seasonal fruit remain available

On dive-focused charters the kitchen also times meals around surface intervals, since nobody wants a heavy lunch twenty minutes before a current dive at Batu Bolong. You can read how dive days are structured on our diving page.

Which dietary requests can the galley accommodate?

These are the requests LASHA's galley handles routinely, along with the notice each one needs. The rule of thumb: the more specific the requirement, the earlier we want to know.

RequestHow the galley handles itNotice needed
VegetarianDedicated mains at every meal, not side-dish assembliesAt booking, or by final payment
VeganPlant-based menu plan; provisioning adjusted for dairy- and egg-free cookingAt booking, or by final payment
HalalNo pork for the charter; meat sourced to requirement; seafood-led menusAt booking, or by final payment
Gluten-awareRice-based Indonesian cooking adapts naturally; bread and noodle dishes substitutedBy final payment
Food allergiesIngredient excluded from your dishes; crew briefed by name and cabinAt booking, with full detail
Children's mealsSimpler plates and flexible timings for young guestsBy final payment

If your group mixes several requirements — common on a 26-guest celebration charter — send us one consolidated list. The galley will map each requirement to a named guest so that the right plate reaches the right person, every meal, without a nightly interrogation at the table.

What are the honest limits of cooking at sea?

Here is the part most liveaboard websites skip. LASHA provisions in Labuan Bajo, a working harbour town with excellent fish, tropical fruit, and market vegetables — but not the retail depth of Jakarta or Singapore. Specialty products such as particular vegan cheese brands, certified gluten-free flours, or specific protein substitutes may simply not be available locally. If a product matters to you, ask us early; sometimes it can be sourced, sometimes the honest answer is no.

Second, the ship has one galley. The crew separates preparation for allergy cases and briefs every server, but a single kitchen at sea cannot promise the zero-cross-contact environment of a certified allergen-free facility. Guests with life-threatening allergies should carry their own medication, tell us at booking, and remind the crew on embarkation day — we would rather hear it three times than zero.

Third, variety at sea is narrower than in a city restaurant. Menus over a multi-day itinerary are genuinely varied, but a nine-night voyage will lean on what Flores produces well. Most guests consider that a feature — the fish was swimming that morning. And one comfort note: like every traditional phinisi, LASHA carries no active fin stabilizers. If you are prone to seasickness, say so — the galley keeps meals lighter on open-water crossing days.

When and how should you tell us about your diet?

The ideal moment is during the booking conversation, when our team is already confirming your cabin assignments and itinerary. The hard deadline is final payment. After that point the provisioning order is being finalised against your departure date, and late changes shrink what the galley can promise.

Send dietary notes to the same channels you book through: the booking page, WhatsApp at +62 811-3823-875, or [email protected]. Reservations for LASHA are handled exclusively through lashacruise.com by Komodo Luxury, the vessel's official marketing and booking partner, operating in the destination since 2015 — which means the person taking your dietary list is the same office briefing the chef, not a third-party reseller passing notes down a chain.

Does this apply on longer voyages like Raja Ampat?

Even more so. On Raja Ampat and Banda Sea itineraries — minimum five nights, from US$11,600 per night — resupply ports are scarce once the ship leaves civilisation behind. Everything your diet requires for the entire voyage is loaded before departure. For those routes we treat the final-payment deadline as genuinely final: a vegan guest disclosed on embarkation day in Sorong will be fed, but not with the range a two-week head start makes possible. The same logic applies to extended Komodo charters during the busy August and September weeks, when Labuan Bajo's markets serve an entire fleet.

The short version: LASHA's kitchen is built to say yes. Give it the information, and the notice, to do so properly.
